EAFC Systems
Highly Stable LO Drive for traffic frequency converters with intelligent, synthesised control...
Orbit Research Ltd manufactures Enhanced Automatic Frequency Control Equipment for Inmarsat Land Earth Stations and general satellite communications use. The units provide an extremely precise control of the traffic frequency converter local oscillators to remove satellite frequency errors and Doppler shifts.
Advantages:
- Synthesised Pilot Receiver locks to any pilot in the range 50 to 90 MHz
- Ultra stable, ultra low phase noise output LO drive to traffic frequency converters
- High reliability - proven in use Easy to operate and maintain
- Fully compatible with all Inmarsat specifications
- Dual outputs for operation with Inmarsat third generation satellites
- Compatible with all types of frequency converter
- Low cost
With the advent of several new Inmarsat services, including low gain aero, mini-m and satellite paging, the emphasis has been to reduce the occupied bandwidth of the signal. Demodulators have to work just at their operating thresholds with little margin for error.
A small change in the frequency of the transmitted or received signal in the wrong direction could spell disaster for communications traffic and lead to lost reputations in a highly competitive industry. The Orbit Research EAFC system - now operating in all four Inmarsat ocean regions- provides the key to accurate frequency control. At least 10 times more accurate than the required Aeronautical specification, the Orbit EAFC unit uses a unique system for ensuring perfect control of the traffic uplink and downlink carriers which will meet the new challenges of mini-m and satellite paging. Engineers at Orbit Research have worked closely with LES operators and Inmarsat to develop what we believe to be the best solution possible for frequency control now available. The Orbit EAFC measures and calculates satellite Doppler and provides an ultra low phase noise reference to the traffic up and down converters. Our system is very flexible in design and can be configured to operate with any third party frequency converter.
