Space Education - FE Colleges |

Space Education CentresOrbit Research Ltd is currently working closely in conjunction with Keighley FE College to develop a new Space Experience and Learning Centre. We are building a mission control centre, spacecraft simulators and robotics equipment which will give young people a real flavour of some of the tasks and challenges in the space industry. At the same time, we aim to include programmes which will allow visiting young people at Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 to develop their skills in maths and science. Gender stereotyping is a significant issue in science and engineering (as indeed is getting good candidates of both sexes). Part of our programme is to demonstrate that science, technology and engineering is relevant to all. Through our work at Keighley, we are striving to develop systems and programmes which can be replicated in other schools and colleges. Orbit Research Ltd has strong links to the British National Space Centre (BNSC) through its involvement in the Space Industry Best Practice Club. We also work closely with the Space Programme in Korolev, Russia, where we are establishing a satellite communication link exchange with the highly acclaimed technical school - venue of the International Space Olympics. Our future plans involve further work on education satellites, and developing online space missions
