Space Education - Primary School

Satelite Internet Access

Primary School Children love space! Ask the average year 1 class to identify the planets and most classes will be able to name them all - in the correct order!

Space ranks with dinasours and volcanos as top science topics at primary school age. There are opportunities for teaching most aspects of the science and maths curriculum using space as a topic!

Orbit Research Ltd is currently developing a number of education resources which will be specifically targetted at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 science curriculum.

These will include on-line information packs and activities.

Projects we have completed in primary schools include:

  • Taking part in project starshine with a group of year 1 children
  • Talks on 'space' to years 1 - 6. (Especially "How do you go to the toilet in space?" - and other interesting facts)
  • Space flight and mission simulations

We are working in close co-operation with Keighley College, West Yorkshire, to develop an advanced Space Education Centre. Here pupils will be able to visit Mission Control, Mars, and take part in live space simulations.

Access to this project is also available on-line using a broadband internet connection.

There are many resources available that allow imaginative minds to engage with space activities. We hope to extend this process to introduce many advanced science concepts, making them accessable and fun for pupils and teachers!

We can also provide broadband satellite internet access to schools in rural communities, where access to ADSL is not available
